Issue description
There have been a few reports of rendering glitches, particularly in the menu. These are starting to show up now as we switched the default renderer to OpenGL and some GL implementations leave a lot to be desired, mainly the drivers for integrated Intel GPUs.

Examples:

  • from irc: " the mouse vanishes at the option screen and I'm getting a great many graphical glitches." "Was thinking it might be due to the fact that I have an HD3000" "I am in Windows 8" "Yeah, just double checked and it is 1.1.2" "D3D9 and restarted and that fixed the mouse and menu thing"

  • from irc: " a heavily glitched main menu with an invisible cursor?" "my graphics card is a NVIDIA geforce" (arx.logicon_open_new.png - showing intel drivers are used, image)

Debugging  ⇑ top

So far we haven't been able to reproduce these glitches on any of our systems. If you have some information to add, pleas do.

Workarounds  ⇑ top

First, make sure your graphics drivers are updated to the latest version. Things get fixed, sometimes.

Option 1: Don't use Intel drivers ;-)  ⇑ top

If you have an NVIDIA Optimus setup, make sure AL is running on the NVIDIA card and not on the Intel card.

Option 2: Switch back to D3D rendering  ⇑ top

Don't do this unless nothing else works - the D3D backend has been removed in the current development code and won't be available starting with AL 1.2!

This can be done under Options → Video settings: Set Renderer to Direct3D and then restart AL for the setting to take effect.

If for some reason you can't change the option in the menu, go to the config directory, open cfg.ini and under "window" change the line starting with framework to
  1. framework="D3D9"
