2) Does the file misc/arx_default.ttf exist where it is supposed to? (e.g. /usr/share/arx/misc/arx_default.ttf if you installed via arx-fatalis-data-*)
3) What freetype2 are you using? The plain version from the extra repository, or a customized one (like with infinality patchset or something like that)?

I assume everything worked fine with 1.1.1? That's really odd, as there have been almost no changes in this release, certainly nothing in the font loading code.
